Culcairn Compressor Station
Compass Fire Solutions recently completed the detail design and installation of the Fire Systems at APA Group's Culcairn Natural Gas Compressor Station (located approx 50kms north of Albury, NSW)
The works involved several disciplines
Fire Detection System
An Addressable Fire Detection System was installed on site covering numerous buildings, linked by underground conduits. A Notifier AFP-2800 was installed in the sites Amenities building with Smoke and Thermal detectors installed in the Amenities Building, Battery Building and Stores Building.
VESDA Aspirated Smoke Detection System
A VESDA system was installed in the Control Building, with 4 VESDA's covering the Control Room, Station Power Cubicle, Station PLC Cubicle, Battery Charger Cubicle and an outside Reference Detector.
Pro-Inert Gaseous Suppression System
A Pro-Inert Gaseous Suppression System was installed to cover the Control Building. The system consisted of 7 Pro-Inert Cylinders located in the new external equipment enclosure and piped into the Control Building. The required system controls were incorporated into the new Fire Panel and activated by the VESDA System.
A portable 200L Automatic Compressed Air Foam unit was supplied and installed in the external equipment enclosure. This unit can be moved around the site by a forklift and has a 30m hose reel attached to enable fire fighting facilities to various parts of the site including the Oil Store, Site Generator, and the 3 Natural Gas Compressors.
Several building works were required as part of the installation, including construction of a new external equipment enclosure, installation of radiant heat shields to protect the cabling entering the underside of the elevate Control Building, replacement of the doors and windows on the Control Building for the protection against radiant heat and the protection of the Control Building's plywood walls and ceiling using a Intumescent Flame proof paint
